Fence rows can make an otherwise straightforward mowing job take much longer than expected. The open areas may be finished, but grass around posts, under wire, and beside other obstacles still needs attention. That often means another trip around the property with a string trimmer.
The new Ventrac MP270 Post Mower is designed to reduce that follow-up work. Its front-mounted, 27-inch cutting deck reaches beneath fence lines and swings around posts, helping the operator complete more of the job from the tractor seat. For farms, equestrian facilities, parks, municipalities, solar installations, and large properties, that can turn fence row maintenance into a regular part of mowing instead of a separate labor-intensive project.
What is the Ventrac MP270 Post Mower?
The MP270 is a specialized Ventrac attachment built to mow around fence posts and other hard-to-reach obstacles. A hydraulically driven single blade provides a 27-inch cutting width, while the deck pod swings rearward when it meets a post. Gas-shock resistance helps the pod move smoothly around the obstacle and return to its working position.
The attachment mounts to the front of the tractor, where the operator can see the cutting deck and fence line. It is compatible with Ventrac 4520 and 4500 tractors and uses a standard front PTO and one hydraulic outlet.
This design addresses a simple but costly problem. Traditional mowing equipment can cut near a fence, but it usually leaves grass around each post and beneath low fence sections. Finishing the job requires additional passes, hand work, or a string trimmer. The MP270 is designed to complete more of that work during the original mowing pass.
How does the Ventrac Post Mower work around fence posts?
The MP270 uses a free-swinging mower pod rather than an actively controlled cutting head. As the operator drives parallel to the fence, the deck reaches beneath the fence line. When the deck contacts a post, it swings behind the post, passes around it, and returns to the cutting position.
The approach is intentionally straightforward. It reduces the number of complex moving parts while still accomplishing the main job: cutting grass close to posts and beneath the fence. That balance supports long-term durability and keeps operation practical for crews that need dependable equipment.
The mower pod does not completely circle each post or cut every blade of grass behind it. Depending on the fence layout and the desired finish, the operator may need to mow both sides of the fence. The operator can also back up after passing a post to gain additional coverage. This is an important expectation to set before a demo. The MP270 is built to reduce hand trimming significantly, not promise that every property will require zero follow-up work.
Why front-mounted visibility matters
Fence row mowing requires the operator to watch the cutting head, the fence, the terrain, and the tractor's position at the same time. On a rear three-point attachment, the operator may need to look backward while continuing to drive forward. That can make precise placement more difficult, especially along uneven or confined fence lines.
The Ventrac Post Mower stays in front of the operator. This provides a clear view of the deck on either side of the tractor and makes it easier to position the cutting zone beneath the fence. The Ventrac articulated platform also helps the operator follow curves and work through tight areas.
The attachment benefits from the same maneuverability and terrain capability that make the Ventrac platform useful for demanding property maintenance. The result is a fence row mower that is easier to see and control while moving across the property.

The MP270 Post Mower features a 27-inch hydraulic cutting deck
The MP270 uses a 27-inch-wide deck with one hydraulically driven blade. Its compact size allows the cutting area to reach beneath many fence configurations while still providing enough width to blend the pass into the surrounding mowing.
The deck is technically a side-discharge design. When the attachment is moved from one side of the tractor to the other, the discharge remains pointed inward, away from the operator's side.
Tool-free left-to-right adjustment
Fence layout and travel direction can change from one section of a property to the next. The MP270 can be moved from the left side of the tractor to the right without tools. That gives the operator the flexibility to choose the side that offers the best access and visibility.
The main frame includes five notches. The center notch is the transport position, with two working positions on each side. Position 1 places the cutting edge farther from the tractor. Position 2 keeps it closer for narrower or more confined spaces.
Adjustable reach
With single wheels, the cutting edge extends 35 inches past the outside of the tractor in Position 1 and 27 inches in Position 2. With dual wheels, it extends 23 inches in Position 1 and 15 inches in Position 2.
The main frame can also be shifted 4 inches toward the operator's right when viewed from the seat. This shop adjustment adds 4 inches of right-side reach and removes 4 inches from the left-side reach. Unlike the normal working-position changes, shifting the frame requires tools and should be completed before the job.
Hydraulic cutting-height adjustment
The operator can adjust cutting height hydraulically from the tractor seat. The available mowing-height range is designed to support different turf conditions and fence clearances without requiring the operator to leave the seat for routine changes.
Flat-free caster wheel and ground tracking
A flat-free caster wheel supports the mower pod as it travels across the ground. During operation, the attachment is placed in float so the pod can track the surface. Ventrac recommends operating at full engine RPM because the attachment's hydraulic drive speed follows tractor engine speed.
